Kids abuzz as Junee’s new park opens

CHRISTMAS has come early for kids in Junee following the news that the town’s vibrant new playground is now open to the public.
Memorial Park’s modern new playground was quietly unveiled late Friday, December 20, 2024, just four days before Christmas, much to the delight of the town’s children who have eagerly awaited its opening.
Inspired by Locomotive 4401, the colourful new design was shaped by feedback from 230 community members and 150 local children.
The diverse and comprehensive train-themed play fort features over 20 climbing, sliding, and balancing activities and establishes a strong visual connection to Main Street.

The redevelopment of the previous decades-old playground was made possible thanks to a $733,600 street beautification grant, awarded to Junee Shire Council through the state government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
The new playground is just one aspect of a broader improvement project aimed at enhancing the town’s public spaces.
The funding will also be used to upgrade footpaths, install new street furniture, and improve disability access in the town centre.
Additionally, bins throughout the town will be replaced, and new trees will be planted in the Shire’s outlying villages.
