SHOWCASE: Junee Hotel to host local photography and art exhibition

THE recently refurbished dining rooms at the Junee Hotel are set to be transformed into a vibrant pop-up gallery showcasing the incredible work of some of Junee’s most talented photographers and artists.
The exhibition, due to open to the public on March 1, will highlight the work of five local photographers – Grant Higginson, Struan Timms, Karen Allamby, Roger Dietrich, and Kevin Schultz – alongside local artist Renee Pallister-Cook.
The showcase will run for two months and feature a diverse collection of framed prints, canvases, and original artworks, most of which will be available for purchase.
Each exhibitor will display up to 10 pieces, offering locals and visitors a unique glimpse into Junee’s creative talent.
Speaking with The Junee Bulletin, exhibiting photographer Roger Dietrich, who specialises in motor racing and artistic portraiture, said the idea was first floated some time ago, but it wasn’t until he was selected to exhibit his work in Sydney that he decided to bring the concept to life.
“The idea was suggested to me a while ago by another photographer, but I didn’t think my work was good enough to exhibit, so it didn’t get off the ground,” Dietrich said.
“Then, when I was chosen for the Sydney exhibition, I thought it might be the right time. I reached out to a couple of other local photographers and artists to see if they’d be interested in participating.”
Initially planned as a one-day event, Dietrich said the owners of the Junee Hotel encouraged the artists to take advantage of their newly renovated space and display their work until April 30.
The extended exhibition will also coincide with the Easter school holidays and ANZAC Day long weekend, ensuring greater visibility and community engagement.
“We thought the Junee Hotel dining rooms would be ideal because there is plenty of space, and at this time of year, there are a lot of visitors to the town, many of whom go to the Hotel,” Dietrich said.
“It is also particularly beneficial to us as the School Holidays, Easter and the ANZAC Day long weekend fall in this time and there should be plenty of visitors to town to look at our work.”
Artworks will be on display and available for purchase during the Junee Hotel’s opening hours.
It’s the first exhibition of its kind to be held in Junee in decades and Dietrich said if all goes well, he hopes to make the exhibition an annual event.
“We will be asking for public feedback, and based on that, we’ll plan our format and strategy moving forward,” he said.
