Crime scene declared after child killed in ‘accidental shooting’

A CRIME scene has been declared on a rural property in southern New South Wales, after a child was shot and killed in what police say appears to have been an ‘accidental shooting’.
The incident occurred shortly before 11:30am on Sunday at a property on Fernleigh Close in Windellama, about 40km south of Goulburn.
In a statement on Sunday afternoon, NSW Police said a 9-year-old boy sustained critical neck injuries after a firearm was accidentally discharged.
“On arrival, officers attached to The Hume Police District were told a 9-year-old boy had been injured following the accidental discharge of a firearm,” the statement read.
Tragically, despite the best efforts of paramedics, the child could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A crime scene has been declared and a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting has commenced.
Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
No further details have been released.
