Weapons, drugs, cash seized in Wagga raids

POLICE have raided a number of homes in a coordinated crackdown across Wagga, arresting four people and seizing a stash of drugs, cash and weapons.

In a targeted operation focused on firearms compliance, officers raided five homes across the city on Wednesday, April 16, including in Ashmont, Mount Austin, Tolland and Glenfield Park.

The operation involved police from the Riverina Police District, as well as specialist units from the Southern Region Operations Support Group and Southern Region Enforcement Squad.

During the raids, police seized over 56 grams of methamphetamine, 25 grams of cannabis, 144 milligrams of buprenorphine, 23 grams of MDMA and two vials of steroids.

A number of weapons were also located, including a pump-action gel-blaster shotgun, a replica pistol, a functioning taser, two throw knives, a throwing hatchet, a zombie knife and 12 other knives.

A 28-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were arrested at home in Poulton Street, Ashmont about 11:30am, where police allegedly found a taser, knives, hatchets and drugs.

Both were taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with supplying prohibited drugs.

The man was refused bail to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court today, Thursday, April 17, while the woman—who was also charged with dealing with the proceeds of crime—was granted conditional bail.

An 18-year-old man was arrested at a home on Blake Street, Wagga, around 8am after police served him with a Firearms Prohibition Order (FPO) and Weapons Prohibition Order (WPO).

He was charged with multiple weapons offences, including possessing an unauthorised firearm and pistol, acquiring a firearm while under prohibition, and supplying a firearm to a prohibited person. He was held in custody to appear in court today.

Later that day, about 12:50pm, officers raided a property on Fernleigh Road, Ashmont, arresting a 20-year-old man. Police said they seized an amount of drugs and cash from the home.

He was charged with possessing and supplying prohibited drugs, as well as dealing with property suspected to be the proceeds of crime. He was released on conditional bail and will face court at a later date.
