A MAN has died after being struck by a bus on the Sturt Highway in Wagga.

The incident occurred in the eastbound lanes of Edward Street, directly opposite Wagga Base Hospital, just before 12:30pm on Sunday, May 11.

Emergency services, including police from the Riverina Police District and the Wagga Wagga Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA), were called to the scene following reports of a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, police found a man — believed to be in his 30s — lying unresponsive on the roadway.

Sadly, he could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The bus driver was taken to Wagga Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established and the highway remained closed for approximately five hours while specialist crash investigators examined the site.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and will prepare a report for the Coroner.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage is urged to contact Wagga Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
