IT has been revealed that two female police officers were injured in Friday’s violent attack in Wagga.

In a statement released on Saturday morning, NSW Police confirmed that a 31-year-old man has been charged over the vicious assault in Kooringal.

Police say the two officers, aged 27 and 34, were attacked after attempting to stop a man who was allegedly riding a bicycle without a helmet on Stillman Avenue shortly before 2pm.

The man allegedly continued riding to Cutler Avenue, where he got off the bike and approached the officers, before stabbing one of them with a screwdriver.

“The man allegedly stabbed a 27-year-old female constable in the arm with a screwdriver and caused cuts to her head and torso,” police said.

A violent struggle followed as both officers attempted to restrain him. During the scuffle, the man allegedly struck the older constable in the face, causing her to fall and hit her head on a concrete driveway.

The younger officer was also allegedly punched multiple times during the assault.

Both officers were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Wagga Base Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable conditions. They have since been discharged.

The alleged attacker was arrested at the scene and taken to Wagga Police Station, where he was later charged with multiple serious offences — including assaulting and wounding a police officer in the execution of duty.

He was also charged with being armed with intent, resisting arrest, and riding without a helmet.

Refused bail, the man spent the night in custody and was due to appear before Parramatta Local Court today.
