Water pipe renewal underway in Coolamon

AGING water infrastructure in Coolamon is being replaced as part of a major renewal project aimed at improving water quality and supply reliability across the township.
Goldenfields Water is currently upgrading up to 20 kilometres of aging urban reticulation pipelines—some more than 80 years old—as part of its ongoing $1 million-a-year commitment to modernise critical infrastructure.
“The works are part of our annual urban reticulation pipeline renewal program, targeting infrastructure installed around the 1940s,” the organisation said in a statement.
Construction began in 2023 and is being carried out by Goldenfields Water’s in-house team, with upgrades including new water mains, stop valves, services, and hydrants.
The project is being delivered alongside other priority works across the region and is expected to continue into 2026.
Goldenfields Water Chairperson Alan White said the upgrades will help reduce unplanned supply interruptions and support upcoming cleansing operations to minimise discoloured water.
“These urban renewals will be highly beneficial for our customers in Coolamon, ensuring a more reliable and resilient pipe network,” Mr White said.
Residents will be notified in advance of any planned water outages during construction.
