Driver in Riverina crash nearly six times over the limit: Police

A MAN has had a lucky escape in the Riverina after crashing his car while allegedly nearly six times over the legal alcohol limit.
The crash occurred on Oura Road at Nangus, between Wantabadgery and Gundagai, on Monday evening, June 23.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 7:20 pm, where they found a vehicle that had left the road and collided with a fence.
Incredibly, the 28-year-old man, who police say was driving the vehicle, escaped injury.
He was arrested at the scene after failing a roadside breath test and taken to Gundagai Police Station, where he allegedly returned a shocking reading of 0.294—almost six times the legal limit.
The man’s licence was immediately suspended, and he is due to appear in Gundagai Local Court on a high-range drink-driving charge on July 18.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of drink-driving, with the man incredibly fortunate not to have caused more harm.
