Ex-teacher accused of historic indecent assault on Riverina student

A FORMER Riverina school teacher has been charged with nearly half a dozen historic offences, following an investigation into the alleged indecent assault of a student at a local high school in the 1980s.
The ex-teacher, now aged 86, is accused of repeatedly assaulting a student at an unnamed Riverina high school in 1984.
NSW Police said the alleged incidents were not reported to authorities at the time.
Detectives from the Riverina Police District became aware of the allegations earlier this year, after receiving information from the Department of Education.
“The Department of Education informed NSW Police of alleged indecent acts, allegedly involving a teacher and a student which occurred at a Riverina High School in 1984,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.
Following investigations, the 86-year-old former teacher was arrested at Wagga police station about 7.45am on Wednesday, August 20.
He was charged with five counts of sexual assault (category 4) – assault & act of indecency less than 16.
The man was released on conditional bail and is due to appear in Wagga Local Court on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
