Cyclist killed in horror crash with street sweeper

A MAN has died after a horror crash between a bicycle and a street sweeper in the Riverina.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Noorebah Avenue and Kooba and Boonah Streets in Griffith about 7am on Friday, September 26, following reports of a serious collision.

Police say a street sweeper was turning from Boonah Street into Kooba Street when a male cyclist, believed to be in his 70s, struck the side of the machine.

Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, the cyclist could not be revived and died at the scene.

The 66-year-old man driving the street sweeper was not injured. He was taken to Griffith Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Officers from the Murrumbidgee Police District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
