Lucky escape as fire rips through Junee home

A YOUNG family has escaped unharmed after a fire tore through their home in Junee on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the three-bedroom fibro home in Lillian Street about 1pm.
It’s believed the blaze began in a front bedroom before spreading to other parts of the house.

The commotion quickly drew the attention of neighbours, who rushed onto the street to assist.
One neighbour told the Junee Bulletin the occupants were seen fleeing the home before attempting to fight the flames with a garden hose, just moments before firefighters arrived.
Thanks to a swift multi-agency response involving Fire and Rescue NSW and the NSW Rural Fire Service, the blaze was contained and brought under control by 1.30pm.

Crews attacked the fire externally through windows and internally once conditions allowed, working quickly to stop the flames from engulfing the entire structure.
Paramedics from NSW Ambulance assessed the family at the scene, but thankfully no injuries were reported.
Although firefighters saved the home’s exterior, the interior sustained significant damage from fire, smoke and water.

The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known.
Lillian Street was closed to through traffic while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, with the Volunteer Rescue Association assisting with traffic control.
