Elderly man dies in Riverina house fire

AN elderly man has tragically died following a house fire in Temora on Saturday evening.

Emergency services were called to a home on Gallipoli Street about 6:30pm on Saturday, October 11, after reports of a fire in the kitchen.

Officers from the Riverina Police District arrived to find an 81-year-old man suffering significant burns.

According to police, family members and officers raced to extinguish the flames before the arrival of Fire and Rescue NSW crews.

Despite the best efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, the man could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, however the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
