Teen seriously injured in Cootamundra ‘incident’
AN investigation is underway after an 18-year-old man was seriously injured during an early-morning incident in the heart of Cootamundra.
Residents awoke on Saturday, October 11, to find part of Wallendoon Street cordoned off with police tape as officers and forensic specialists scoured the area for evidence.
One local told The Junee Bulletin the scene stretched “from Hovell Street at Thompson Rural Supplies to the car wash and Ford dealership,” adding that “there was also a window smashed at Thompson Rural.”
While the exact circumstances remain unclear, police believe the teenager was injured on Parker Street about 3.45am.
A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed officers from Riverina Police District have launched an investigation.
“Officers from Riverina Police District have commenced an investigation after an 18-year-old man sustained a significant injury to his arm about 3.45am in Parker Street,” the spokesperson said.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson told The Junee Bulletin the teen suffered “serious lacerations” to his arm.
Paramedics were on scene from about 4.30am and transported the patient to Cootamundra Health Service for treatment.
NSW Ambulance said its crews were initially dispatched to the intersection of Dickson and Mackay streets.
As inquiries continue, detectives are urging anyone with information or dash-cam footage from the area to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
