THE 135th Annual Junee Show will burst into life this Saturday, October 25, with organisers promising a full day of colour, excitement and good old-fashioned country celebration.

A staple of the local calendar for more than a century, this year’s show is set to bring together the very best of the Shire, celebrating rural life, family fun, community talent and everything in between.

The Junee Showgrounds will come alive from the moment the gates open at 9am, with non-stop entertainment scheduled through to the 8pm fireworks finale.

This year’s program is jam-packed with hands-on experiences and family-friendly fun, featuring live reptile demonstrations, the much-loved junior pet show, high-stakes duck racing, and dog highjumping.

The little ones will also have two chances to grab a photo with Bluey the mascot — near the Show Office at 10:30am and again at 1:30pm.

Of course, no show is complete without the classics.

Expect the roar of ShowMow Racing, the buzz of Side Show Alley, the charm of the free animal nursery, and the unmistakable scent of hot chips, snow cones and dagwood dogs drifting through the grounds.

Meanwhile, the LadiesPavilion will once again showcase the best of local skill and creativity, from home baking and preserves to needlework, school projects and floral displays.

It’s a true treasure trove of talent and a testament to the time and care Junee’s residents invest behind the scenes.

Adding even more horsepower to the program, the Junee Motor Club will be on site with a classic and vintage car display sure to turn heads, while the horse and harness racing program will keep the main arena buzzing all day with competitive action.

In a delightful first for the Junee Show, the grounds will also host their inaugural Donkey and Mule Show, set to begin at 12pm.

Complete with an obstacle course and a tongue-in-cheek fashion parade, this novelty event promises plenty of laughs and four-legged charm as these sure-footed stars strut their stuff.

Earlier in the day, Junior Judging competitions will shine a spotlight on the next generation of rural show talent, with judging kicking off from 9am.

These events play a key role in developing the next generation of community leaders and rural show advocates.

Local winners and runners-up will have the chance to progress to the zone finals, where two standout competitors will be selected to represent the district at the NSW State Finals.

One of the most anticipated moments of the day will unfold at 2pm, when the official opening ceremony gets underway in the heart of the showgrounds.

This year’s honours will be carried out by Junee’s own breakout television star, Majella Davis, known for her role as Krista Sinclair on Neighbours, who returns home to help open the 135th Show in front of a proud local crowd.

The opening ceremony will also include the crowning of Junee’s 2025 Young Woman of the Year (formerly known as the Junee Showgirl) recognising outstanding leadership, confidence and community service among the Shire’s young women.

The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW officially rebranded the statewide competition in 2022, encouraging local shows to adopt the Young Woman title to better reflect the evolving spirit of the program.

The competition, which has long been a proud part of the rural show circuit, celebrates the achievements of regional women and opens doors to new opportunities in personal development, public speaking and leadership.

This year’s winner will represent Junee at the regional judging stage, with the chance to advance to the NSW State Finals at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2026.

Alongside the honour of representing her community, the 2025 Junee Young Woman will also receive a prize pool valued at nearly $1,000, including cash, gift cards and sponsor packs, and will be invited to attend a personal development weekend in Dubbo.

AFTERNOON TUNES & FIREWORKS FINISH

As the afternoon rolls into evening, the music will kick into gear, led by local talent Harry Pratt, who takes to the stage at 4pm with a laid-back acoustic set sure to have toes tapping.

His performance sets the tone for an action-packed twilight program featuring live music, the crowd-favourite bushman’s relay, and the ever-competitive gumboot throwing competition.

All of it builds to the grand finale fireworks display at 8pm, lighting up the skies above the showgrounds in a spectacular burst of colour to close out a day full of joy, tradition and hometown pride.

Behind the scenes, the Junee Show Society has once again rallied an enormous effort, with hundreds of entries expected across one of the largest competition programs in the region.

From scones to sheep and photography to pumpkins, nearly every corner of country life will be represented.

For those feeling lucky, the 200 Club Raffle is back in action, offering $1,750 in prize money.

Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased by contacting Maria Turner on 0498 130 764 or via email at glenora4@hotmail.com.

PLAN YOUR DAY, PACK YOUR HAT

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting mostly fine conditions for show day, with partly cloudy skies and a top temperature of 24°C.

The agency says there will be a slight chance of a thunderstorm on Saturday afternoon and evening.

Entry to the show remains affordable for all, with tickets priced at $10 for adults and $5 for children and concession holders.

A TRADITION WORTH CELEBRATING

It’s where memories are made, stories are shared, and where a love of rural life is celebrated in full colour.

With energy building across the district and the forecast in favour, locals and visitors alike are encouraged to come along, show their support, and be part of one of the town’s proudest traditions.
