Man arrested after incident at Junee Railway Station
A MAN has been arrested following an unsettling incident aboard a passenger train travelling between Sydney and Melbourne, which was brought to a halt at Junee on Thursday.
Police say they were first notified of a major disruption involving a passenger on the interstate XPT service about 7.40am on October 23.
A NSW Police spokesperson said officers from the Riverina Police District were told a man had barricaded himself inside a toilet cubicle and was allegedly threatening other passengers.
Arrangements were made for officers from the Riverina Police District and Police Transport Command to intercept the train as it arrived at Junee early Thursday afternoon.
Both the Melbourne-bound and Sydney-bound XPT services were halted in the town while police removed the unruly traveller.
The man was arrested and taken to Junee Police Station, where he was charged with obstructing a locomotive or rolling railway stock, and destroying or damaging property.
He also faces charges of smoking on a public passenger train and committing a section 114 offence while having a previous conviction.
The man was refused bail and held in custody overnight to appear before the Local Bail Court on Friday, October 24.
