POLICE have destroyed a multi-million dollar cannabis crop found growing on a rural property in the Riverina.

Local officers, with assistance from the Southern Region Enforcement Squad and State Crime Command, made the discovery at a property in Neimur — about 80km north-west of Deniliquin — on Wednesday morning, February 11.

About 5000 cannabis plants, with an estimated potential street value of $10 million, were allegedly located in dense bushland on the 306-hectare property.

Police said the crop was catalogued and photographed for evidentiary purposes before being uprooted and burnt on site.

Four people — two men in their 40s and two women in their 60s — were arrested at the property and taken to Deniliquin Police Station.

They were each charged with cultivating a large commercial quantity of a prohibited plant and possessing a commercial quantity of a prohibited plant.

All four were refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 5 on Thursday, February 12.
