Police probe alleged fraud at Junee pub
POLICE have launched an investigation into allegations of fraud at one of Junee’s most prominent and family-friendly licenced venues, sending shockwaves through the town.
In a statement late Friday, provided in response to enquiries by The Junee Bulletin, a NSW Police spokesperson confirmed an investigation is underway.
“Detectives from Riverina Police District have commenced an investigation regarding an alleged fraud at a licensed premises in Junee,” the spokesperson said.
While police have not publicly named the venue, The Junee Bulletin understands the investigation relates to the Commercial Hotel.
Multiple sources familiar with the matter have told this publication that significant financial discrepancies were recently identified within the business, reportedly involving a substantial sum of money over an extended period.
Confirmation of the police investigation comes amid sudden staffing changes at the venue this week, with recruitment advertisements seeking a new venue manager and additional bar and beverage staff for the Commercial Hotel published on Seek on Tuesday.
No arrests or charges have been announced, and those involved are entitled to the presumption of innocence while investigations continue.

Junee’s Commercial Hotel is owned by the Riverina-based Oates family, which operates multiple venues across the region.
Personnel from within the wider group have been assisting with operations at the hotel in recent days.
The Junee Bulletin has sought comment from the ownership group and is awaiting a response.
Police have confirmed their investigation into the alleged fraud is ongoing and have indicated no further comment will be made at this stage.
This is a developing story. The Junee Bulletin will provide updates as further information becomes available.
