Man accused of torching house, urging dog to attack

A MAN who allegedly torched a house in Cootamundra over the weekend has been hit with a raft of charges, including being armed with intent and urging a dog to attack a person.

Emergency services raced to Adams Street in Cootamundra about 10pm on Sunday following reports a house was on fire.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews battled the blaze before bringing it under control, but the home sustained extensive damage.

No one was injured.

Following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire, a 24-year-old man who is known to the occupants of the home was arrested at Cootamundra Police Station on Monday morning, August 31.

He was formally charged with 10 offences, including damaging property by fire, setting fire to the property of another, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, stalking or intimidating with intent to cause fear of physical harm, and urging a dog to attack.

The man was also charged with two counts of destroying or damaging property, possessing a knife in a public place, using an unregistered vehicle and unlawfully possessing number plates.

He was refused police bail following his arrest and appeared before a bail court on Tuesday, where bail was again refused.

The man is due to appear before Wagga Local Court on Wednesday.
