‘It’s been an incredible journey’: Junee Newsagency turns the page after 11 years

AFTER more than 11 years behind the counter, Tanya Guinan and Chris Allen have handed over the reins of the Junee Newsagency, marking the end of an era for one of the town’s most familiar families.
In a heartfelt Facebook post shared on October 1, Tanya confirmed the local business had been sold.
“After 11 and a half fabulous years, we have sold our newsagency!” Tanya wrote.
She reflected on what the newsagency has meant to her family and the wider community, describing it as far more than just a workplace.
“It’s been an incredible journey, from early mornings and late nights, to laughs, chats, friendships, and even a shoulder to cry on with so many of you who’ve supported us along the way.
“This business has been more than just work for us. It’s been a place of connection, milestones, and memories we’ll always carry with us.”
Although the business has changed hands, Tanya will remain working in-store alongside the rest of the existing team.
“I’ll be staying on, as will the rest of our wonderful team, who are the absolute best!”
New owners Kenny and Kanu have already been warmly welcomed, with Tanya urging the community to continue showing the same generous support.
“We’re very happy to welcome Kenny and Kanu as the new Junee Newsagency owners. These guys are fabulous and we hope you’ll give them the same warm support you’ve always given us.”
A community’s gratitude
News of the sale was met with an outpouring of well wishes, with more than 100 locals commenting online to congratulate the family and acknowledge their contribution to Junee.
Long-time customers thanked Tanya and Chris for their friendly service, while community leaders praised their role in the town’s heart and spirit.
Junee Shire Mayor Robert Callow was among those to publicly pay tribute.
“Thank you Tanya and all your hard workers,” he wrote. “You have done yourselves proud and served Junee well. I hope whatever you do from now on gives you as much joy. I wish you all the very best for the future.”
Councillor Matt Austin reflected on watching their journey unfold over the years.
“I remember you starting on the new adventure all those years ago,” he said. “You absolutely smashed it, and gave Junee something to be proud of.”
A lasting legacy
While the sale marks a major milestone for the family, Tanya says the memories and relationships built during their time at the helm will always remain close.
“We are truly grateful for our loyal customers and our favourite furry friends who visit us every day.”
The Junee community now looks ahead to a new chapter under Kenny and Kanu’s stewardship, and to the continued presence of a much-loved local face behind the counter of a business that’s long been part of the town’s daily rhythm.
