About Us

The Junee Bulletin (formerly Junee Community News) is an independent, locally owned and operated digital news platform based in Junee, New South Wales, Australia.

Originally launched as a small community Facebook page in 2015, The Junee Bulletin has evolved into a trusted source of news and information, serving the people of Junee, former residents, and visitors from surrounding towns and villages.

Our mission is to inform, entertain, and engage our community by delivering timely and relevant local news, analysis, commentary, events, weather updates, community information, and advertising opportunities.

We also play a vital role in highlighting local achievements and documenting the challenges faced by our region.

Over the past five years, The Junee Bulletin has experienced remarkable growth, with our Facebook following increasing by 400% — from 4,000 in 2019 to nearly 20,000 today — reflecting the community’s trust and continued reliance on our content.

Our audience is diverse, made up of 64% women and 36% men, with strong followings in Wagga Wagga (33.7%), Junee (19.4%), Sydney (19%), Cootamundra (5.6%), Melbourne (5.6%), and Canberra (4.7%).

Our consistently high engagement rates and expansive regional reach set us apart from other local media outlets.

In June alone, our content reached 3.4 million views and recorded 42,000 interactions.

Our Founder

The Junee Bulletin is owned and operated by Jaydan J. Duck (ABN 35 281 874 474), a seasoned digital news producer, social media manager, and content creator with 18 years of industry experience.

Born and raised in Junee, Jaydan’s passion for journalism ignited in 2006 following the devastating Jail Break Inn fire. At just 14 years old, he co-produced a commemorative DVD to support the Mayoral Bushfire Appeal, marking the beginning of his commitment to community storytelling.

By 15, he was contributing news articles to the Junee Southern Cross and gaining valuable experience with The Daily Advertiser and Prime TV Wagga, covering significant events, including his first fatal traffic accident. Under the mentorship of respected journalists such as veteran newsreader Doug Hogan, broadcast journalist Ashlea Hansen (Brown), and former Daily Advertiser reporter Rebekah Holliday, Jaydan honed his skills in the field.

While studying for his Preliminary Higher School Certificate at Junee High School, he concurrently pursued a Media Journalism qualification through TAFE NSW, excelling in subjects such as writing for news media, legal and social issues in journalism, and news photography, earning a Distinction.

At 17, he was appointed temporary managing editor of the Junee Southern Cross, successfully publishing a 12-page newspaper weekly for four months and increasing readership before being offered a full-time cadetship with The Daily Advertiser.

However, personal tragedy led him to step away from the position, and he later relocated to the Gold Coast, where he built two highly successful digital news platforms, amassing a combined audience of over 440,000. These platforms were later acquired by Hot Tomato Broadcasting Company in 2015 and subsequently by Grant Broadcasters in 2018 before its acquisition by the Australian Radio Network in 2021.

During his time on the Gold Coast, Jaydan spent six years as a news producer and social media content coordinator for 102.9 Hot Tomato. He was named Australia’s fifth most prolific web author by media monitoring agency Streem and developed a keen interest in severe weather reporting, working alongside renowned storm chaser Jeff Higgins from Higgins Storm Chasing.

In 2019, Jaydan resigned from his position and returned home to Junee to be closer to family where he founded Junee Community News, transforming a small community Facebook page into a trusted local news source.

Following the closure of the Junee Southern Cross in 2020, he received multiple business proposals and offers of assistance to establish a new local newspaper. However, due to existing contractual commitments and time constraints, he was unable to take on the responsibility at that time.

In 2021, he was approached with a proposal to acquire Junee Community News, aiming to leverage its large and highly engaged social media following to support the launch of a new print publication. Despite discussions, an agreement was not reached.

In late 2024, Jaydan began scaling-down his contractual commitments and launched The Junee Bulletin’s official website, www.juneebulletin.com.au, further strengthening his dedication to documenting the region’s triumphs, challenges, and history while providing a platform for local businesses and organisations to promote their services.

Driven by passion rather than profit, Jaydan remains committed to delivering breaking news and supporting local fundraising initiatives, ensuring that the Junee community stays informed with accurate, timely, and relevant news.
