THE Junee Shire has switched on for Christmas, with more than 100 dazzling displays illuminating over 40 streets from Old Junee to Illabo in what has become one of the region’s most anticipated annual traditions.

The Junee Bulletin’s 2025 Christmas Lights Trail officially launched this week, following 10 days of mapping, verifying and plotting addresses to deliver the most comprehensive guide to the shire’s brightest homes.

Despite a week of wild winds that challenged even the keenest decorators, the community has matched last year’s incredible participation rate (and then some) with dozens of standout installations and several impressive new contenders.

A SHIRE-WIDE SPECTACLE

From meticulously outlined rooftops and vibrant garden displays across Junee’s residential streets, to traffic-stopping features in Old Junee and Illabo, the shire has once again delivered an exceptional show of festive spirit.

Many of the town’s long-standing contributors have returned with refreshed displays – some bigger, bolder, and more synchronised than previous years – while a few newcomers have also joined the fun.

One of the centrepieces of this year’s Trail is once again the Illabo Christmas Lights, where Nick and Mel Barker have transformed more than 2,000 square metres of land into what is now the Riverina’s largest walk-through Christmas display.

Bigger, brighter, and even more detailed than last year, the sprawling installation has become a seasonal destination in its own right.

In Old Junee, Bailey Dalby has reimagined his George Street property into a scene straight from a Christmas film set.

His vibrant window displays, high-colour lighting, striking inflatables and even a fully illuminated caravan have quickly cemented the home as a community favourite.

Local businesses have again embraced the festive season, decorating their shopfronts with lights, garlands and window displays that collectively elevate the town’s Christmas atmosphere.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS COMPETITION

REMAX Junee is once again running its annual Christmas lights competition, with $1000 in cash up for grabs.

Residents can nominate their own home or put forward another standout property.

To enter, simply email a photo or video of the display to abbi.duck@remax.com.au

Nominations close 4:00pm on Tuesday, December 16, before community voting determines the winner.

PLANNING YOUR VISIT

To help locals and visitors make the most of the experience, the full 2025 Christmas Lights Trail has again been plotted into Google Maps, allowing families to navigate the shire’s most festive streets without missing a thing.

See the map below!

The Junee Bulletin has also produced a special highlights video showcasing dozens of this year’s standout displays.

Make a night (or two) of it:

  • With more than 100 stops on this year’s Trail, the best way to ensure you don’t miss any standout displays is to split your viewing across multiple evenings.
  • With Junee’s thriving hospitality scene and a growing number of out-of-town visitors each Christmas, families are encouraged to enjoy dinner locally, grab dessert, or finish with an ice cream between stops.

Best viewing times:

  • Lights are best viewed from 8:45pm onwards, with most displays at peak brightness around 9:00pm. With daylight savings pushing sunset later – and many homes now using cost-effective solar lighting – visitors are encouraged to head out after dark for the full effect. A reminder that some homes switch off their displays earlier in the night, so plan accordingly.

Windy weather:

  • Some homes may switch off inflatables or delicate features on windy nights for safety, so visitors may notice variations from one evening to the next.

Respect the displays:

  • Please admire displays from a safe distance. Do not touch decorations, inflatables or lighting installations.

The ongoing growth of the Trail reflects a tremendous collective effort across the shire. Year after year, Junee continues to cement itself as one of the brightest and most spirited Christmas destinations in regional NSW.
