Accused shoplifter allegedly spat at police, found with meth

AN accused thief who allegedly spat at police after being arrested for shoplifting in Wagga was allegedly carrying methamphetamine and already on bail for previous offences, police say.

Police were called to reports of a shoplifting incident at a retail store in Wagga about 3.35pm on Tuesday, August 4.

Officers attended and quickly located the alleged offender nearby, where police allege the person attempted to discard the stolen items before being arrested.

Police further allege the accused spat at officers during the arrest.

A subsequent search allegedly uncovered a small resealable bag containing methamphetamine, while inquiries revealed the person was also breaching existing bail conditions.

The accused was charged with shoplifting, possessing a prohibited drug, assaulting a police officer in the execution of duty and breaching bail conditions.

They were refused police bail and to appear before a bail court on Wednesday.
