A MAN will front court this week, accused of assaulting a three-week-old baby during a distressing incident at a home in the NSW Southern Tablelands.

Police allege the assault occurred at a property in Goulburn on Wednesday, October 22, where a 28-year-old man is accused of forcefully shoving a dummy into the infant’s mouth before allegedly “tossing” the baby across a bed.

Authorities were alerted to the incident two days later, on Friday, October 24, with officers from the Hume Police District launching an investigation.

The man was arrested at a Goulburn home later that evening and taken to the local police station, where he was charged with common assault.

He was held in custody overnight Friday and appeared before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday, where bail was formally denied.

He is scheduled to appear before Goulburn Local Court on Tuesday, October 28.
