Man threatened at knifepoint, dog injured in Wagga attack

A MAN has been hospitalised and his dog injured after confronting a suspicious stranger who allegedly threatened him with a knife before launching a violent attack.

Emergency services were called to Tongaboo Lane, behind Wagga’s main shopping strip, about 8.30pm on Wednesday, June 24, following reports of an assault.

Police were told a 45-year-old man was threatened at knifepoint before being violently assaulted after confronting a 31-year-old man he had spotted acting suspiciously behind his property.

The man’s dog was also injured during the incident.

Bystanders rushed to assist the victim and contacted emergency services.

The 45-year-old was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wagga Base Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

His alleged attacker fled before police arrived but was located a short time later on Baylis Street.

He was also taken to Wagga Base Hospital for treatment to minor injuries before being released into police custody.

The 31-year-old was taken to Wagga Police Station and charged with affray, reckless wounding, and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Local Court 5 on Thursday, June 25.
