Courier truck ‘ripped open’ in Junee crash

A COURIER truck has been ripped open and parcels scattered across the side of the Olympic Highway after two trucks collided in Junee this morning.

Emergency services were called to the crash near the crest of the hill between De Salis Drive and Park Lane just before 11am on Tuesday, July 21.

The collision involved two small box trucks travelling towards Junee.

One of the vehicles, a courier truck loaded with parcels, sustained extensive damage, with almost the entire left-hand wall of its enclosed cargo body torn away in the impact.

Boxes, packaging and other debris were strewn along the roadside.

While the exact circumstances surrounding the collision remain unclear, the damage suggests the left-hand side of the courier truck’s cargo body may have caught on the rear of the second vehicle, peeling the wall away as the truck continued forward.

Images from the scene show the courier truck resting several metres ahead of the second vehicle, its cargo compartment left completely exposed as parcels remained scattered along the shoulder of the highway.

Despite the damage, both drivers escaped without serious injury and were seen speaking with police outside their vehicles immediately after the collision.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended a short time later and assessed one of the drivers for minor injuries.

Stop/slow traffic conditions were put in place while the scene was cleared, with motorists required to pass through the area one direction at a time.
