Blue and gold takeover as Junee rallies behind Junior Diesels

JUNEE has turned blue and gold as the town rallies behind its Under 16s Junior Diesels, who will chase premiership glory on home soil in Saturday’s Group 9 grand final.

Businesses, homes and community organisations have embraced the Diesels spirit as excitement builds ahead of the side’s showdown with Temora at Loftus Oval, with balloons, streamers, signs and colourful window displays appearing across town.

The club said it appreciated the groundswell of support the Under 16s had received ahead of the biggest game of their season.

The Diesels booked their place in the 2026 Group 9 Junior Rugby League Grand Final with a hard-fought 22-16 semi-final victory over Young at Temora last Saturday.

That six-point win secured Junee a home grand final against Temora and continued a remarkable run for the town’s young rugby league talent.

Eight members of the Diesels side were also part of the Junee High School Under 16s team which made history last Wednesday, claiming the school’s first NSW Small Schools rugby league shield since the competition began more than 30 years ago.

Now, just 10 days after lifting the state shield, those players have the opportunity to add a second piece of silverware to an already memorable fortnight.

This time they’ll do it in front of a home crowd, with Loftus Oval set to host the Northern Pool grand finals on Saturday.

The Under 16s decider is scheduled to kick off at 3.50pm, with the Diesels facing Temora for the premiership.

After a week spent turning Junee blue and gold, the club will be hoping the colourful show of support around town translates into a big crowd at Loftus Oval when the young Diesels take the field.
