Woman stabbed in head in alleged domestic violence attack
A WOMAN has been left fighting for her life after allegedly being stabbed repeatedly in the head and torso with a kitchen knife during a horrific domestic violence incident in the Riverina.
The alleged attack unfolded at a home in Leeton on Thursday, October 15, sparking a police manhunt that ended two days later with the arrest of a 38-year-old man in Wagga.
The man is now facing eight charges, including wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, following a series of alleged incidents spanning Leeton, Yanco and Wagga.
Police were called to a property on Wandoo Street in Leeton on Thursday after receiving reports that a woman had been found seriously injured.
Officers from the Murrumbidgee Police District arrived to find a 42-year-old woman who had allegedly been stabbed several times in the head and torso with a kitchen knife by a man known to her.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the woman at the scene before she was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Due to the severity of her injuries, she was subsequently airlifted to another hospital in a serious condition for further treatment.
The alleged attacker had fled before police arrived, triggering an urgent search across the region.

Investigators allege the man escaped in a Holden Rodeo, driving through the front gate of a nearby property before leaving the area.
Police further allege the man travelled along Dempsey Road at Yanco later that day, where he deliberately rammed another vehicle.
No injuries were reported in the collision, but the driver allegedly failed to stop and exchange details.
Detectives launched an investigation to track down the man, with inquiries eventually leading officers to a property in Wagga’s western suburbs.
About 2.45pm on Saturday, October 17, police arrested a 38-year-old man at an address on Bardia Street in Ashmont.
He was taken to Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with three domestic violence offences, including wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, intentionally choking a person without consent, and common assault.
The man was also charged with an additional five offences relating to the alleged traffic incidents, including dangerous driving, driving to menace another with intent, driving while disqualified, failing to exchange details with another driver, and destroy or damage property.
The man was refused bail and due to appear before Bail Division Local Court 5 on Sunday, October 18.
