Man killed in horror crash near Wagga

POLICE have confirmed the death of a man following a fatal crash west of Wagga.

Emergency services were called to the Sturt Highway, between Wagga Wagga and Collingullie, just after 8.10am on Tuesday, December 30, following reports of a serious collision.

Officers from the Riverina Police District attended the scene and found a black SUV had crashed into a stationary truck parked in a roadside rest area near Twelve Mile Road.

The driver and sole occupant of the SUV, a man believed to be in his 50s, could not be saved and died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene was established as specialist officers began investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

According to Live Traffic NSW, a reduced speed limit of 60km/h is in place past the crash site, with motorists urged to exercise caution.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash, or who was travelling in the area at the time and may have dashcam footage, to come forward.
