Junee Ice Bucket Challenge: Local staff to brave the Big Freeze
THERE’LL be plenty of shivers, shrieks and soaked staff in Junee on Friday as local workers line up for an ice-cold drenching to raise money and awareness in the fight against motor neurone disease (MND).
The brave crew at Brew at 102 will take part in a very public ice bucket challenge, with every available staff member volunteering to get soaked outside the café from 4.30pm on June 19.
Junee Medical Centre receptionist Kim Whitty and Junee IGA manager Shane Willis will also join the team for the fundraiser, where locals will have the opportunity to pay for the privilege of tipping an icy bucket of water over their heads.

Brew at 102 owner Rachel Dolan is encouraging the community to come along, cheer the team on and help raise funds for the cause.
She said the fundraiser was about bringing the community together to support an important cause while raising as much money as possible for FightMND.
“The more people and businesses we can gather to be on board for this amazing cause, the better,” Ms Dolan said.
“We are an awesome town, and I know we can do a great job.”
Motor neurone disease is a progressive neurological condition that gradually robs people of their ability to walk, talk, eat, swallow and eventually breathe.
The average life expectancy following diagnoses is just 27 months.
Friday’s event in Junee forms part of FightMND’s nationwide DIY Big Freeze campaign, inspired by the iconic Big Freeze held annually at the MCG to raise awareness and funds for MND research and support services.
The initiative was championed by the late AFL great and FightMND co-founder Neale Daniher, whose determination and advocacy helped turn the campaign into one of Australia’s most successful charity movements.
More than $150 million has now been raised through Big Freeze fundraising efforts across Australia, with funds raised helping support care programs, research into treatments and the search for a cure.

In true community spirit, Brew at 102 is encouraging locals to get involved in more ways than one.
Donations can be made through the café, via the team’s online fundraising page, or by paying for the chance to tip an icy bucket of water over one of the staff members on the day.
The community has already begun rallying behind the initiative, with the Brew at 102 team raising almost $1,000 ahead of the event and hoping to build on that total in the final days before the big freeze.
