Junee rises with the sun for Australia Day fun run

CLOSE to 100 people of all ages rose with the sun to take part in Junee’s annual 3.2 kilometre Australia Day Jail Break Fun Run.
Starting at 7:30am, participants pounded the pavement from the Junee Correctional Centre to the Junee Recreation and Aquatic Centre, where they were treated to a free sausage sizzle.
The Junee Bulletin counted 96 competitors, including runners, adults and children on bikes, mums with prams, and a couple of pooches.
There were three $100 cash prizes for random finishers, prizes for kids under eight years old on bikes, and medallions for first place winners across four categories.
Race winners will be announced during this morning’s official Australia Day ceremony at the Athenium Theatre from 10am.
The after party will follow at the Junee Recreation and Aquatic Centre, with free pool entry for everyone until 12pm, backed up with a free barbeque lunch and four hours of free slide fun.
