Junee pubs swept by drug dogs in weekend blitz

DRUG detection dogs have swept through pubs and clubs across the Riverina in a major weekend police blitz, sniffing out cocaine and cannabis during surprise checks at 21 venues across six towns.

Officers from Riverina Police District joined forces with the NSW Police Dog Unit for the proactive operation, which targeted licensed premises in Wagga, Temora, Junee, Cootamundra, Tumut and Gundagai on Friday and Saturday.

Junee was targeted on Saturday night, with pubgoers reporting up to four police officers and two drug-detection dogs moving through local venues about 10.30pm.

Police say 20 people and one vehicle were searched during the two-day region-wide crackdown, which resulted in five drug detections for cocaine and cannabis.

Three people were issued court attendance notices over alleged drug offences, while a further four were issued formal move-on directions.

Police say similar drug-detection operations will continue across the region.
