450t crane arrives in Junee ahead of next footbridge lifts

A 450-TONNE crane has arrived in Junee to lift additional sections of Kemp Street’s new pedestrian footbridge into place.

According to Inland Rail’s latest out-of-hours works notification, footbridge girders will be delivered and installed over the coming fortnight.

The first two  sections were lifted into place behind the Junee Skate Park in early August.

The 450-tonne mobile crane arrived in town on Monday before being assembled with a lattice boom extension on Edgar Street on Tuesday, ahead of the next round of installations.

Out-of-hours works are scheduled between 6pm and 10pm from Monday, September 28 to Friday, October 2, and again from Tuesday, October 6 to Tuesday, October 13.

Traffic control will be in place during girder deliveries, with Hill Street and Edgar Street subject to temporary closures during each lift.

Local resident access will be maintained where possible, while pedestrian access to businesses on Hill Street will remain open.

The activity comes just two weeks after the remaining concrete girders forming the deck of the new overpass were lifted into position during a 96-hour rail possession.

Additional out-of-hours construction activity is also scheduled around the Olympic Highway underpass and the northern end of the Junee Yard in the coming weeks.

Inland Rail said works may be rescheduled at short notice due to weather or other factors, with affected neighbours to be notified.
