BREAKING: Child dead, three critical after NSW stabbing

A CHILD has been found dead and two other young children and a woman are fighting for life after a horrific stabbing in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.

Police say emergency services were called to Waratah Road at Valley Heights, near Springwood, about 12.45pm on Sunday, September 20, after three children and a woman were found suffering multiple stab wounds inside a vehicle.

Members of the public were already desperately trying to help when emergency services were called, with several people performing first aid on the woman and children.

One of the children was found dead inside the vehicle.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the two surviving children and the woman at the scene before they were rushed to hospital.

The children were taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, while the woman was transported to Westmead Hospital.

All three were listed in a critical condition on Sunday afternoon.

Police said the three children were believed to be aged under five, while the woman was believed to be in her 40s.

Their identities were yet to be confirmed.

The exact circumstances leading up to the stabbing or the relationship between those involved was not immediately known.

Officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command have established a crime scene on Waratah Road as investigations begin.

In a significant early development, a NSW Police spokesperson said officers were not looking for any other people in connection with the incident.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, was in the Valley Heights area at the time, or may have relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage to come forward.
