JUNEE’S community spirit shone brightly on Sunday, with this year’s Ladies Long Lunch raising an impressive $16,000 for the local Can Assist branch — lifting the event’s total contribution to more than $42,000 since its inception.

The annual fundraiser, held at the Junee Showgrounds pavilion on July 27, drew around 100 guests who enjoyed a day of fine food, live music and heartfelt storytelling in support of local cancer patients.

Guests were treated to a menu prepared by Marrar Kitchen, while musician Aaron Oldaker provided the soundtrack to the afternoon.

The atmosphere was further warmed by heaters and the buzz of conversation, laughter and raffles, as attendees mingled over wine and drinks served from a travelling bar van.

One of the most moving moments came when four young Junee women — Heidi White, Harriet Corbett, Sienna Riley and Jemima Brady — took to the stage to share how their lives have been touched by cancer within their families.

Their stories, along with a powerful address from Amie St Clair Foundation founder Annette St Clair, reinforced the importance of Can Assist’s mission to provide practical and financial help to locals facing cancer treatment.

Funds raised will stay in Junee to help cover costs such as travel, accommodation and treatment for local people undergoing cancer care.
