A WAGGA man whose house was allegedly targeted in a late-night attack has spent the night behind bars, charged over an alleged hit-and-run that left one of the accused suspects critically injured.

Police allege the confrontation began about 2.30am on Friday, November 21, when a 22-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man attended a home on Melkin Avenue, Glenfield Park, and smashed a front window.

In a statement overnight, a NSW Police spokesperson said the 18-year-old man allegedly punched the window, shattering the glass, before the pair fled the scene on a motorbike.

A 53-year-old man who lives at the address is then alleged to have pursued the motorbike in his vehicle, following the pair for more than three kilometres through suburban streets before the chase came to a violent halt on Fernleigh Road, Ashmont.

“Police will allege the driver of the car collided with the bike causing the two occupants to fall,” the spokesperson said.

“It is further alleged the driver then reversed before driving forward, running over the bike, and leaving the scene.”

The 22-year-old woman — who police say was riding the motorbike — sustained critical head injuries, while her 18-year-old pillion passenger escaped with minor injuries.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Wagga Base Hospital and later airlifted to St George Hospital in Sydney.

The pillion passenger, who declined treatment, was arrested nearby a short time later and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with destroy or damage property and riding as a motorcycle passenger without a helmet.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

The alleged driver was arrested at his Glenfield Park home about 8.30am, more than five hours after the alleged hit-and-run.

The 53-year-old man was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with several serious offences, including negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and failing to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing grievous bodily harm.

He was also charged with causing bodily harm by misconduct while in charge of a motor vehicle, not giving particulars to an injured person, and not keeping a firearm safely (not pistol/prohibited firearm).

The man was refused police bail and is listed to appear via audio visual link in Bail Division Court 5 today, Saturday, November 22.

Police say investigations are ongoing.
