A HOUSE has been completely destroyed by fire in the Riverina, despite the best efforts of firefighters who worked for hours to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring properties.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on Short Street, Yenda, about 16 kilometres east of Griffith, at 2.31pm on Monday, December 29.

On arrival, crews were confronted with a well-established structure fire, with flames and radiant heat placing a neighbouring property at risk.

Fire and Rescue NSW said firefighters worked defensively to shield nearby properties while battling the blaze.

Firefighters from Griffith, Leeton and Narrandera responded to the incident, supported by a Region West 3 duty commander and the NSW Rural Fire Service.

The fire was contained within several hours, preventing further spread, however the dwelling itself was unable to be saved and was completely destroyed.

NSW Police and NSW Ambulance also attended the scene.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
