Wagga diesel drops below $3 as Junee gap widens

FUEL prices in Wagga have fallen sharply across both diesel and petrol, deepening the gap with Junee and giving motorists in the city a clear advantage at the bowser.

Diesel dropped below the $3 mark at five Wagga service stations on Wednesday, with the cheapest price sitting at 296.1 cents per litre at APCO on Hammond Street.

Four other sites are selling diesel at 298.9c/L , including Shell Reddy Express on Edward Street, United on Hammond Avenue, and both Mobil service stations on Dobney Avenue and Houtman Street.

But the divide with Junee is not limited to diesel.

Premium 98 in Wagga has fallen below $2.50 a litre at APCO, where it is selling for 243.9c/L, while regular 91 is down to 226.9c/L at three Wagga servos.

In Junee, by comparison, premium 98 remains at 269.9c/L, while the cheapest regular unleaded 91 is 246.9c/L.

That leaves Junee motorists paying around 20 cents a litre more for petrol in some cases, on top of an already significant diesel gap.

Local diesel prices in Junee have remained comparatively high this week, with United and Mobil holding at 313.9c/L.

Junee’s Shell service station dropped its diesel prices on Wednesday to 316.9c/L, down from 329.9c/L, but it too still remains well above Wagga’s current lows.

The disparity comes as the region continues to grapple with the broader fuel crisis, which has seen supply pressures, sharp price spikes and some service stations in surrounding areas run dry in recent weeks.

It also coincides with the federal government’s fuel excise cut officially taking effect, although motorists have been warned not to expect that relief to flow through immediately, with any meaningful reduction still likely days or even weeks away.

That makes the latest falls in Wagga notable and welcome, even if they do not signal an end to the wider pressure facing motorists across the region.

For Junee drivers, however, the latest prices are likely to sharpen frustration, with the town continuing to trail well behind Wagga across both diesel and petrol.
