Disqualified driver allegedly blows six times the legal limit
A MAN already disqualified from driving until 2030 was allegedly caught behind the wheel of a van near Wagga on Monday morning with a blood alcohol reading more than six times the legal limit.
Police intercepted the van on Holbrook Road, near Granville Lane, at Mangoplah, about 36 kilometres south of Wagga, around 10.45am on June 1.
Officers had reportedly received complaints about the manner in which the vehicle was being driven as it travelled north towards Wagga.
After stopping the van, police spoke with the driver, a 29-year-old man, who allegedly failed a roadside breath test.
He was arrested and taken to Wagga Police Station, where a secondary breath analysis allegedly returned a blood alcohol concentration reading of 0.302.
The reading is more than six times the legal limit of 0.05 for a fully licensed driver.
Police said further inquiries revealed the man held a Victorian driver’s licence and was already disqualified from driving until January 2030.
He was charged with high-range drink driving and driving while disqualified.
The man was refused police bail and held in custody overnight before appearing via video link before a bail court on Tuesday, where his application for bail was granted.
He is due to reappear before Wagga Local Court on Wednesday, June 10.
