THE $95 million redevelopment of Temora Hospital has reached a significant new milestone, with all eight concrete slab pours for the facility’s new eastern wing now complete as construction continues to gather pace.

It marks a major step forward in the project, with the completed slabs forming the footprint of the new eastern wing, which will house expanded and modern health services for Temora and surrounding communities.

The milestone was announced by Murrumbidgee Local Health District on Wednesday, June 3, marking the completion of all eight concrete slab pours a little over two months after the first was laid.

The new hospital will bring all services together under one roof, delivering expanded healthcare facilities and improved access to modern medical care closer to home.

The build is being delivered in stages by Richard Crookes Constructions on the existing hospital site, allowing health services to continue operating while work progresses around the facility.

The hospital’s existing eastern wing, staff accommodation and day centre buildings were demolished in late 2025, with services relocated to the west wing, which remains operational.

Once the new eastern wing is complete and operational, the old west wing will be demolished and rebuilt.

When finished, the project will deliver a new Emergency Department, a flexible inpatient unit supporting medical, surgical, rehabilitation, maternity and palliative care services, and a purpose-built perioperative suite featuring an operating theatre and procedure room.

It will also include expanded allied health and ambulatory care facilities, community and mental health services, pathology collection services, and improved parking and site access.

One of the most significant additions will be enhanced diagnostic imaging, with local CT and ultrasound services to be introduced for the first time, reducing the need for many patients to travel elsewhere for scans.

Additional site improvements will include separate emergency and service vehicle access, while the hospital’s existing staff rotunda will be retained and repurposed as a courtyard space for staff.

With all eight slab pours now complete, the new hospital is expected to begin taking shape more rapidly in the months ahead, as further structural elements are installed above the foundations.

The redevelopment is expected to be completed in 2028.
