Junee man charged over dramatic police pursuit

UPDATE: A 20-YEAR-OLD man has been charged and refused bail following Monday’s dramatic police pursuit in Junee.

Kaiden Mark Landow, 20, is accused of breaching an apprehended violence order, damaging property and escaping police custody before allegedly leading police on a dangerous pursuit through the town on a motorbike on August 24.

Police say they were first called to a home in Elizabeth Street about 2.40pm, following concerns for a person’s welfare.

Landow is accused of damaging property at the address before fleeing the scene on foot upon police arrival.

He allegedly scaled a number of residential fences and ran through neighbouring backyards while attempting to evade officers.

One resident told the Bulletin the man scaled their side fence and ran through their backyard before bolting through a rear gate and into a laneway, with police chasing close behind.

The 20-year-old P-plater then allegedly fled the area on a motorbike, triggering a pursuit involving multiple police units, including Highway Patrol and officers from Junee, Temora and surrounding areas.

The motorcycle was allegedly abandoned in Acacia Place, opposite Junee High School, a short time later with Landow allegedly again fleeing on foot.

The unfolding police operation coincided with the end of the school day, with students leaving Junee High School as officers converged on the surrounding area.

The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns only streets away from where Landow was eventually located and arrested on the corner of Lisgar and Denison streets about 3.30pm.

He was taken to Junee Police Station following his arrest where he was charged with seven offences relating to both the incident at the Elizabeth Street home and the police pursuit.

He was refused police bail and due to appear before a bail court today, Tuesday, August 25.
