Young man killed in horror incident at Riverina sports ground

A MAN in his 20s has died after allegedly being towed by a quad bike and striking a goal post at a recreation reserve in the Riverina, with the 20-year-old rider now charged over his death.

Emergency services were called to the reserve on Osborne Yerong Creek Road at Osborne, about 70km southwest of Wagga, following reports of a serious incident about 2.30pm on Sunday.

Police say the young man suffered serious injuries after being towed by a quad bike and striking a goal post.

Bystanders rushed to his aid before emergency services arrived, but despite efforts to save him, he died at the scene.

The 20-year-old man who police allege was driving the quad bike was arrested following the incident and taken for mandatory testing.

He was later taken to Wagga Police Station, where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, and negligent driving occasioning death.

The accused was granted conditional bail and is due to face Wagga Local Court on Wednesday, September 23.
