Highway Haul: 54kg of cannabis seized during Riverina traffic stop
POLICE have allegedly uncovered more than 54,000 grams of cannabis hidden in the back of a people mover during a traffic stop in the Riverina.
Highway Patrol officers intercepted a white Kia Carnival on the Hume Highway at Tumblong, southwest of Gundagai, shortly after 3pm on Tuesday, April 14.
The driver, a 30-year-old man, underwent a roadside breath test, which police say returned a negative result.
But a subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a massive drug haul, with more than 54 kilograms of cannabis allegedly found in the rear of the eight-seater, hidden beneath toilet paper and boxes of instant noodles.

Images released by NSW Police show the sheer scale of the haul, with multiple vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis packed inside five large colourful carry bags.
The drugs were seized, along with a mobile phone, which police say will undergo forensic examination as part of ongoing inquiries.

Investigations are ongoing.
