Accused thief arrested weeks after stolen car found in shed
A MAN wanted over the alleged theft of a car found stashed inside a Riverina shed has been arrested following a foot pursuit in Griffith.
Police allege the car was stolen from Hardiman Way at Griffith about 3.30am on Monday, April 27.
Officers responded to the scene, seized CCTV and launched an investigation.
Two days later, about 11am on Wednesday, April 29, police were contacted after the allegedly stolen vehicle was found inside a shed on Lawrence Road at Bilbul.
The car was seized for forensic examination.
Following further inquiries, police stopped a vehicle on Merrigal Street, Griffith, about 11am on Monday, May 18, where they allegedly located a 20-year-old man in the passenger seat.
Police say officers directed the man to get out of the vehicle, before he allegedly ran from the scene on foot.
He was arrested a short time later and taken to Griffith Police Station, where he was charged with possess implements to enter or drive a conveyance, enter vehicle or boat without consent of owner, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
The man was refused bail by police and appeared before Bail Division Court 5 on Tuesday, May 19, where bail was formally refused.
He is due to appear before Griffith Local Court on Wednesday, May 27.
