Alleged drug-affected driver charged after dramatic midnight arrest
A WOMAN who was allegedly found behaving erratically on the Hume Highway in the middle of the night has been charged, after police claim she was intoxicated, drug-affected and driving a stolen vehicle taken from a Riverina property.
About 1.45am on Saturday, June 6, 2026, officers attached to the Hume Police District were called to the Hume Highway at Jugiong following reports a Holden Commodore was stopped on the highway and a woman was acting erratically on the road.
Police arrived and arrested a 37-year-old woman at the scene after the vehicle was allegedly confirmed to have been stolen from a property on Clifford Road in Narrandera the previous afternoon, Friday, June 5.
The woman was subjected to a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result.
She was later taken to Yass Police Station for further testing, where she allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.066.
Police also allege she returned a positive test for methamphetamine.
The 37-year-old was charged with refusing or failing to provide an oral fluid sample, low-range drink-driving, taking and driving a conveyance without consent, and having goods suspected of being stolen.
She was also charged in relation to an outstanding warrant for a traffic-related offence.
The woman was refused bail and due to appear before Wagga Local Court on Wednesday, June 10.
