Man charged with attempted murder after domestic attack
A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a woman during a domestic violence-related attack in the Riverina.
Police and paramedics were called to reports of a woman with stab wounds at a home on Wakool Road, Deniliquin, shortly after 11.10pm on Sunday.
On arrival, officers attached to Murray River Police District were told the 53-year-old woman had allegedly been attacked by a man known to her at a nearby home.
The woman, who was allegedly assaulted and stabbed, was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital for further treatment.
Police said her injuries were not life-threatening.
Officers attended the home where the alleged attack occurred and arrested a 65-year-old man.
He was taken to Deniliquin Police Station, where he was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, domestic violence-related.
The man was refused bail by police and later appeared before Bail Division Local Court 5, where bail was formally refused.
He will remain in custody ahead of his appearance in Griffith Local Court on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
