Man arrested after dramatic pursuit through Junee

A MAN has been arrested following a dramatic police pursuit in Junee.

The incident unfolded shortly before 3pm on Monday, August 24, when police were called to a home in Elizabeth Street following concerns for a person’s welfare.

Upon their arrival, a 20-year-old man who police were told had damaged a shed at the property allegedly fled the scene on foot.

The Junee Bulletin understands the man scaled a number of residential fences and ran through neighbouring backyards while attempting to evade officers.

One resident told the Bulletin the man scaled their side fence and ran through their backyard before bolting through a rear gate and into a laneway, with police chasing close behind.

Police said the 20-year-old then left the area on a motorcycle, triggering a pursuit involving multiple police units, including Highway Patrol and officers from Junee, Temora and surrounding areas.

The man allegedly abandoned the motorcycle in Acacia Place, opposite Junee High School, before again fleeing on foot.

The unfolding police operation coincided with the end of the school day, with students leaving Junee High School as officers converged on the surrounding area.

The chase ultimately came to an end shortly after 3.30pm, when police arrested the man in Lisgar Street.

He was taken to Junee Police Station, where he remained in custody on Monday night.

Police said investigations into the incident were continuing.
