AFTER facing an uncertain future just 12 months ago, the Illabo Show will return this Saturday for its 104th year with a packed program of horse events, yard dog trials, speed shearing, entertainment and fireworks.

The much-loved country show was at risk of disappearing after a dwindling volunteer base forced organisers to reconsider its future.

Despite attracting bumper crowds in 2024, organisers last year announced the event would not continue in its traditional format after 2025.

The news was met with shock and sadness across the Shire, before a revitalised committee stepped forward to bring the show back.

The result is a full-day program featuring many of the traditional attractions that have made the Illabo Show a fixture on the local calendar, alongside new entertainment and activities.

Horse events will take centre stage from early Saturday morning, with sporting and novelty events beginning at 8am, followed by horse events in the main arena and a Horsemanship Challenge.

Yard dog trials will run throughout the day, while the animal nursery will open from 9.30am and the show pavilion will showcase entries spanning arts, crafts, cookery, photography and wool.

Visitors will also have the chance to get up close with venomous snakes during a series of educational reptile displays throughout the day.

The afternoon will bring some of the show’s more traditional agricultural and competitive events, including the prime lamb results and speed shear competition, before the Bushman’s Relay takes to the main arena at 3.30pm.

There will also be plenty for families away from the competition ring, with side show rides, show bags, market and trade stalls, food outlets, a mechanical bull and rock-climbing wall among the attractions.

The show will finish under lights with a grand fireworks display in the main arena from 8pm.

More than $10,000 in prize money and trophies is on offer across the show’s competitions.

Organisers have encouraged the community to support the returning show as volunteers work to establish a sustainable future for the event.

Entry is $20 for adults, $5 for aged pensioners and high-school students, while primary-school-aged children and younger enter free.

The full 2026 program is available through the Illabo Show Society website.
