New correctional officers welcomed at Junee prison ceremony
SIXTEEN new correctional officers have been formally welcomed into the Corrective Services NSW workforce during a recent attestation ceremony at Junee Correctional Centre.
The ceremony, held earlier this month, marked an important milestone for the officers as they joined the state’s correctional workforce.
It follows confirmation in late September that 14 additional correctional officers had commenced duties at the Junee Correctional Centre, with further recruitment continuing.

The latest intake comes at a time of significant change at the Junee prison, with its prison’s inmate population expected to climb to an operational capacity of 944 this month following the completion of prisoner transfers from Goulburn and other facilities across NSW.

The prison has a maximum physical capacity of approximately 1,280 inmates.
Corrective Services NSW has been actively recruiting staff to support and expand operations at Junee since the facility returned to public management in 2025.

Originally established as NSW’s first privately operated prison in 1993, the centre was managed by the GEO Group for more than three decades before the NSW Government assumed control.
The department says increasing prisoner numbers and employing additional staff have always formed part of its plans under the public operating model.
Recruitment efforts have included frontline correctional officers alongside a range of specialist, operational and administrative positions, providing further employment opportunities for Junee and the wider Riverina.
