A BURST water main has closed roads and cut off water supply to several streets in Junee.

The incident occurred in Peel Street, outside Junee Preschool, early on Sunday morning, with residents waking to find a torrent of water gushing down the road and many homes without any water at all.

Supply was disrupted to numerous streets, including Commins, Main, Elizabeth, Prince, Pitt, and Cedric Streets.

Goldenfields Water has confirmed it is aware of the situation and has dispatched teams to the site.

Crews have isolated the main and stopped the flow of water, revealing a large hole in the roadway. Water supply has also since returned to some homes.

Peel Street has been closed to traffic as workers arrive to fix the damage, with repairs expected to take several hours.

As of 9.30 am, repairs had not yet begun.

A spokesperson for Goldenfields Water said its customers in Junee and surrounding areas may experience a total loss of water, low pressure or discoloured water while the damage is fixed and pipe replaced.

“Our team is working hard to repair the burst,” the spokesperson said. “We hope to have the repairs done in the next three hours.”

After service is fully restored, residents should check water quality from the tap nearest to the water meter before use. If discoloured water is detected, run the tap until the water clears.

If the water doesn’t clear, notify Goldenfields Water immediately at 1800 800 917.
