Human remains found in shallow grave years after Wagga arrest
HUMAN remains believed to be those of a missing grandmother have been unearthed in a shallow grave in Sydney’s west, more than three years after a man arrested in Wagga was charged with her murder.
Nadire Sensoy, 71, was reported missing by her daughter in December 2018 after disappearing from her Prospect home in Sydney’s west just weeks before Christmas.
Neighbours raised the alarm after becoming concerned for Ms Sensoy’s welfare when she had not been seen for several days.
Despite extensive investigations, police were unable to locate the grandmother and even explored whether she had travelled back to her native Turkey.
After inquiries failed to uncover her whereabouts, police publicly appealed for information in 2020 and announced a $350,000 reward.
A coronial inquest into Ms Sensoy’s disappearance and suspected death commenced in March 2023, but was suspended days later after fresh information emerged.
That information led to the arrest of a 47-year-old man who was known to Ms Sensoy at Wagga Police Station.
The man subsequently charged with domestic violence-related murder and remains before the courts.
Police allege he murdered Ms Sensoy between December 6 and December 11, 2018, in Sydney’s Blacktown area.
Human remains believed to be those of Ms Sensoy were uncovered on Thursday, June 11, during an excavation at a property on Powers Road, Seven Hills.
The remains were located in a shallow grave about 100 metres from a nearby creek bed.
“The remains will undergo forensic examination to determine the identity of the person; however, police believe they are those of the missing woman,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.
“Police continue to await the outcome of the analysis.”
Investigations under Strike Force Admirality remain ongoing, while the $350,000 reward for information relating to Ms Sensoy’s death is still on offer.
